Who we are

Do you enjoy walking, running, drinking, laughing, socializing, and being a bit daft?  Then come and join in the Gascony Hash.

What happens?

The Gascony Hash meets approximately monthly throughout the year.  The meeting (called a 'run') involves walking or running a trail marked in flour or paper (set in advance by the ‘Hare’), with a beer stop part way round and a ‘sing song’ and beer stop with BBQ / food in good weather at the end.  It is suitable for all ages of able bodied people.  Runs are usually on Sundays.  The first hash is free, thereafter the cost is 5 euros per adult and 2,50 euros per child, which goes towards the cost of beer etc.

If you are interested in Gascony Hash (GH3) events, which cover the Gers and Haut Pyrenees (about 100 km radius of Auch), please contact Michele by e-mailing gasconyhash[at]gmail(dot)com , or just show up at our next run! All are welcome!

There is also a Toulouse Hash and details can be found on www.toulousehash.com

A bit of History

The Gascony Hash House Harriers (GH3) was founded by Mike (PISSOLES) Petzold, ex BLANTYRE H3, Malawi; and it's first inaugural run was set on October 19th 2003.

The Hash House Harriers is a decentralized organization which started in 1938 in Kuala Lumpur as a running group for ex-pats and British colonial officers.  They met on Monday evenings, to run off the excesses of the weekend, and were rewarded at the end with beer, ginger beer and cigarettes.  The run was based on the traditional British Paper Chase, where a ‘Hare’ sets an unknown trail to be followed by the runners.  The name is derived from the annex – known as the ‘Hash House’- where the men were billeted.

The Constitution of the Hash House Harriers as recorded on a club registration card dated 1950 is:

 To promote physical fitness among our members
 To get rid of weekend hangovers
 To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
 To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

There are now nearly 2000 groups all over the world and anyone washed up in foreign parts can find a Hash relatively near by.

The internet contains lots of information about The Hash House Harriers and their worldwide organizations.
